Coffee Therapy is a strange little film about a day in a coffee shop that becomes a journey through 25 years of psychotherapy.
Darnell Shacklebee, proprietor of Escape the Daily Grind, gets slammed one Saturday when there’s a psychotherapist convention in town. All of his former therapists pop in for coffee, triggering a trip down memory lane. The trip includes decades of therapy, family conflict, and misdiagnoses.
This project was made possible through the support of the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency, the Blumenthal Endowment, and the arts councils in Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Rutherford, and York (SC) counties.
